Here is my primary editing PC. The one thing I crave more than anything else is stability. I spend all day in Adobe Pr, Sony Vegas, and other sound and video software. But since the big players all seem to be at it one way or another, it's hard to figure out how much it's really costing everyone. The whole workstation GPU market seems to be little more than a scam along the lines of "Nice GPU you've got there, shame if anything happened to cripple it because you only paid us a few hundred bucks for the card it's on instead of a few thousand". I haven't got any of the very latest cards, but as far as I can tell neither AMD nor Nvidia seems to be much better than the other in this respect. In some cases that "advantage" is actually just not having artificially nerfed drivers for your gaming card. The hardware in a workstation card is often much the same as mid-high end gaming cards in terms of processing power, so the major "advantage" you're paying for (at several times the price) is those drivers. The drivers have always been glitchy as **** for us, even in supposedly certified applications, and in some cases they haven't even worked properly as basic desktop video cards. Workstation class graphics cards are absurdly overrated IME.
